Lady Liberty Challenge
Pajaro Valley Quilt Association
What would you do with a fabric panel headshot of the Statue of Liberty? Make a quilt telling your family's immigration story? Utilize some of the 'Lady Liberty' quilt blocks? Make a political statement about the shenanigans in Washington, DC?
This was the challenge presented to about 50 members of the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association (PVVQA) in Santa Cruz County, California. Included with the Robt. Kaufman panel by Ben Richards' line, 'Patriots,' were 3 additional fabrics that had to be included in the quilt. There were no other rules except for a size restriction, and that it had to be a quilt.
What was produced by the PVQA members was a collection of heartfelt art quilts that reflected what the Statue of Liberty meant to them.
